Villa Spånga
Transformation of an existing 1970s villa

This architectural project involved a comprehensive transformation of a 1970s residential villa in Spånga, Stockholm. The main goal was to improve both functionality and appearance while considering the needs of the future inhabitants and respecting the original structure. The project prioritized preserving the villa’s existing structure to maintain its historical significance and align with sustainability principles. Instead of demolishing and rebuilding, the focus was on enhancing the existing foundation. A multi-faceted strategy was used to maximize space within the original footprint. This included creating a new exterior look for the villa while making it more functional. The refurbishment also addressed the villa’s tilted foundation, ensuring its longevity. The interior layout was carefully designed to suit the occupants’ lifestyles, incorporating shared and private spaces for various activities. The result was a harmonious living space that met diverse needs. In summary, this project transformed an existing villa by blending contemporary design with its original strucutre. It prioritized structural integrity, spatial efficiency, and the inhabitants’ needs. The intervention showcased how adaptive architectural practices can seamlessly merge old and new for a functional and harmonious living environment.
