Re-act Brunkhuvudet

This architectural study centers on the Brunkhuvudet building in central Stockholm, particularly focusing on the Jakobsarkaden segment. The aim is to create a connection between different historical phases of the complex by proposing a spatial intervention in Jakobsarkaden. Through a detailed exploration of the building’s history, the study reveals how its diverse architectural styles have evolved over time. Notably, the arches in Posthuset from the 1800s and Jakobsarkaden from the 1980s are juxtaposed, highlighting both temporal differences and thematic similarities. The proposed intervention involves opening the inner façade of Jakobsarkaden, allowing previously secluded spaces to integrate with the public domain. This strategy not only fosters public engagement with the building but also establishes a dialogue between different architectural eras. The choice of the color red, seen in neighboring structures like Kulturhuset and Segelhuset, serves as a symbolic link and a material choice that resonates with the existing granite stone of the arcade. The study seeked to merge historical and contemporary elements within Brunkhuvudet through thoughtful architectural interventions. By doing so, it enriches public experiences and adds a new layer to the building’s history, creating a harmonious connection between past and present narratives.
