“Nothing comes from nothing” - Carlo Scarpa.
The final studio project of the second year I were to design a new building adjacent to the Castelvecchio Museum and sited on the Piazzetta Castelvecchio in Verona. The brief aimed to propose a series of rooms within a new building that will relieve the pressure on the existing museum’s public facilities and extend its programme and profile. It would also provide a permanent home to the Scarpa drawing archive and allow the works to be stored appropriately, studied and displayed. The building would not only add public facilities that cannot be contained comfortably within the castle itself, but it would also reflect the studio’s year-long interest in the work of Carlo Scarpa.
